The University has established policies and practices to ensure efficient business operations. Staff members who commit violations to policies, practices and laws are subject to disciplinary action. In most cases, such as failure to follow instructions, infractions, or inappropriate absenteeism/tardiness, the immediate supervisor takes corrective action. Normally, progressive counseling is applied in the following sequence:
1. First Incident: Documented Verbal Warning
2. Second Incident: Written Warning
3. Third Incident: Separation from the University
Misconduct such as theft, deceit, lying, physical abuse, alcohol or drug abuse on duty, or refusal to follow a direct order may result in immediate discharge. Supervisors must consult with their vice chancellor and/or the director of employee relations before discharging an employee.
